PRISON Regulations by Jurisdiction

Louisiana Prisons

We have received a copy of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections Regulation Number C-06-00 named Field Operations - Culinary Food Services. This document explains how inmates can receive special diets.

From our understanding of the document, there are two ways to get special diet. One is if it is a therapeutic diet, approved by medical staff. The other is if it is a religious diet, and that must be approved by a prison chaplain.

We have offered an option to inmates in these facilities who are not affiliated with traditional religions but want a vegetarian diet for ethical/moral reasons: they have the option, if they are comfortable expressing their beliefs to be Humanists, to use our brochure AND IF I DON'T BELIEVE and request a vegetarian diet because of their Humanist beliefs. We are waiting to hear whether their requests are successful.
We have tried to get a copy of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections Regulation Number C-06-001 to post on this website but we have not been able to find it online. We have typed the relevant sections of the policy and you can download it using the link below. Please contact us if you need more details about this document - we have a printed copy for reference.
