PRISON Regulations by Jurisdiction Massachusetts Prisons | Massachusetts Department of Corrections http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=eopshomepage&L=1&L0=Home&sid=Eeops
We have not yet worked with anybody in the Massachusetts Department of Corrections but have read the section of the Massachusetts General Laws (M.G.L.) that deal with treatment of prisoners (http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/gl-127-toc.htm).
There is nothing we have found in the laws that relate specifically to provision of vegetarian and/or special religious diets. We think the relevant laws may be stated in M.G.L. Chapter 127: Section 88. Religious services:
Section 88. An inmate of any prison or other place of confinement shall not be denied the free exercise of his religious belief and the liberty of worshipping God according to the dictates of his conscience in the place where he is confined... (http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/127-88.htm)
We are eager to hear from people in Massachusetts facilities who can help us better understand the process for obtaining vegetarian diets while incarcerated. |
